Havana, May 19 (RHC)-- The Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity-Serbian Chapter, expressed its support for the initiative to nominate Cuba's Henry Reeve Medical Brigade for the Nobel Peace Prize.

In a statement signed by its president, Ratko Krsmanovic, it is underlined that "the humanist and medical dimension of the Nobel Prize would shine in all its splendor if it were to receive recognition for the magnificent and heroic struggle to save thousands of lives all over the planet carried out by these Cuban specialists."

Krsmanovic highlighted the efforts made so far by that contingent and their sacrifices to save lives in many countries of the world, including their current participation in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in more than 20 countries, which represents an immeasurable and extraordinary contribution to all humanity.

The document recalls that in 2015, the Brigade was nominated for a Nobel Prize by Norwegian trade unions in recognition of its role in West Africa in preventing the spread and treatment of Ebola, but was not accepted at that time.

The Serbian solidarity organization notes that today, in the midst of a global pandemic, a large group of volunteer medical workers from a small country like Cuba are giving the entire world an example and hope of sacrifice, solidarity, experience and extraordinary courage.
