Havana, October 19 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla presented on Wednesday to the national and foreign press the report on the impact caused by the U.S. blockade policy on Cuba in the last year.

"We are living in an unprecedented context of unprecedented tightening of the blockade, of economic asphyxiation, of economic war, to provoke the collapse of the Cuban economy, to provoke unpredictable consequences," denounced the Cuban Foreign Minister during the meeting with the press.

Rodriguez specified that between August 2021 and February 2022, the blockade caused losses to Cuba in the order of 3,806.5 billion dollars, a record amount for only seven months. The GDP could have grown by 4.5% in this period if the blockade had not existed.

In the first 14 months of the current U.S. government, the damages caused by the blockade amounted to 6,364 million dollars, an impact of more than 454 million dollars a month and 15 million dollars a day.

The accumulated damages during six decades of application of this policy amount to 154,217.3 billion USD.  In terms of the value of gold on the international market, the blockade has caused quantifiable damages of more than 1 trillion 391,111 million USD.

The performance of the Cuban economy in the last two years has been inevitably influenced by the impact of the blockade and its coincidence with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The few suppliers that have decided to continue supplying products to Cuba have increased their prices. At the same time, the United States is applying intimidation and persecution measures against fuel supply companies.

He added that President Joe Biden maintains the policy of maximum pressure against Cuba initiated by the administration of Donald Trump.

On November 2 and 3, the UNGA will consider the draft resolution entitled "Necessity of putting an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.
