Vigil in Canada to demand an end to the U.S. blockade against Cuba

Havana, Dec 16 (RHC) Movements in solidarity with Cuba will hold a vigil today in the city of Vancouver to demand an end to the economic, financial, and commercial blockade that the United States has maintained for more than 60 years against the island.

In statements to Prensa Latina, the coordinator of the solidarity project Puentes de Amor, Carlos Lazo, said that the initiative is part of others that will take place during this month to advocate for the normalization of relations between the White House and Havana and the cessation of hostilities from the North American country.

According to Lazo, the participants will demand Washington accelerate the process of family reunification in its embassy in Havana, enhance the process of sending remittances to relatives in the Caribbean nation, and promote broad cultural and scientific cooperation between the two countries.

The attendees will also request the immediate elimination of all measures that hinder the flow of food, medical supplies, and other basic resources to Cuba, as well as the limits imposed on the right to travel freely to the island to all citizens and residents on the northern territory.

A vigil similar to the one that will take place in Vancouver, on the west coast of the Canadian nation of British Columbia, will be held at the international airport of the city of Miami, United States, next Wednesday. (Prensa Latina)
