Bridgetown, Feb 16 (RHC) The Minister of Education, Technological and Professional Training of Barbados, Kay McConney, and the Cuban ambassador in that country, Sergio Pastrana, signed an agreement in the field of education.

It grants two annual scholarships for five years to Cuban citizens, to train experts from that country in English as a foreign language, the local government informed through its website.

The signing of the document also gives Barbadians the opportunity to strengthen their capacity for the acquisition of a second language through the teaching of Spanish.

In addition, it will allow the practical exchange of teachers between Cuba and Barbados, with emphasis on those of the English language and those dedicated to high school education.

This nation obtained scholarships granted by the Cuban executive in fields such as medicine and sports, for which reason the memorandum of understanding constitutes another step in the long-standing bilateral friendship and cooperation.

In December last year, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley headed a high-level meeting in this capital in which both parties ratified the will to expand ties.

During the visit of the Cuban leader, both nations signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in biotechnology between a Barbadian exporting entity and the Business Group of the Biotechnological and Pharmaceutical Industries of Cuba (BioCubaFarma). (Prensa Latina)
