Ines Maria Chapman's tour of Banes

Holguin, Feb 18 (RHC) Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Ines Maria Chapman Waugh insisted Friday on the need to boost agricultural production to achieve food sovereignty, during an exchange with residents of several popular councils in the municipality of Banes in Holguin.

As part of the tour that the candidates for deputies to the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament) are carrying out in several localities and centers of socioeconomic interest in the country, in the People's Council of Mulas, an eminently agricultural community, Chapman Waugh was interested in the situation of water supply.

Voters raised other concerns such as the poor condition of roads, and transportation, especially for patients and the sick, as well as the deterioration of the housing fund, with emphasis on the bodega and the family doctor's office.

Accompanied by the young farmer Oleidis Silva, also a candidate for deputy, the vice prime minister visited the settlement of Godines.

During the tour, she also exchanged with neighbors and fishermen of the Punta de Mulas neighborhood about their main concerns and possible solutions.

Until March 24, the 470 candidates for deputies to the Cuban Parliament will hold meetings with the population, workers, and other sectors of society given the upcoming national elections.

The visits to communities and centers of production, services, education and science, and armed institutions, among others, will allow the people to get to know better those who will represent their territory before the National Assembly of People's Power, in the 10th Legislature, for a five-year term.

In such exchanges, the people know the merits and capacities of each one of these men and women, among them personalities and base delegates, and at the same time, the candidates will verify the main characteristics, achievements, and claims of that locality and population that will place their trust in them.

Consuelo Baeza Martín, president of the National Nominations Commission, pointed out in a press conference in the capital, the importance of this step that precedes the voting on March 26, when the voters will go to the polls to elect by direct and secret vote the deputies to the supreme organ of the State power.
