Cuban president received UN special rapporteur

Havana, May 5 (RHC) Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel today received in Havana Alena Douhan, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the negative repercussions of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights.

At the Palace of the Revolution, the Cuban president thanked the official for her visit, and reiterated the island's support for her management. He also reported on the impact of the United States blockade of Cuba, whose effects have worsened as a result of the inclusion in Washington's unilateral list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

For her part, Douhan expressed gratitude for the support of the Caribbean nation in a world increasingly impacted by unilateral sanctions. She commented on her meetings with civil society groups despite the academic nature of her visit, and pointed out the resilience of the Cuban people.

She also indicated that during her stay she has learned about the negative effects of the unilateral measures of the United States Government, which have repercussions on human rights and life.

On May 4, Douhan offered a keynote speech at the opening of the forum Diverse views of the Cuban context on the impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights, convened by the University of Havana.

The official's program included tours of educational centers, communities, institutions, and interviews with national authorities and directors of various ministries. (Source: Prensa Latina)
