Cuba wants to expand its presence in China's electronic commerce

Havana, Aug 25 (RHC) Cuba seeks to expand its presence on China's electronic commerce platform JD.com, in which various Latin American products now have greater acceptance by consumers in this country.

The Cuban ambassador to China, Alberto Blanco, stressed that having officially launched the Excelencias Cuba section within JD.com in April of last year represented a milestone for bilateral relations.

JD.com is one of the most widely used e-commerce platforms in China. Two decades after it was created, it receives some 20 million purchase orders every day and has around 600 million loyal users.

According to the directors of that company, Cuban products are consolidating in China and are becoming increasingly accepted, among them honey, different brands of rum and coffee. The Cuban diplomat explained that the island is expanding the possibilities to cosmetics and guayaberas, thus showing the potential of Cuba for the consumer in China.

Blanco assured that China is one of the main destinations for trade in goods from the Caribbean country, a cooperation that also expands to trade in services such as tourism and cultural, educational and sports spaces.

In this sense, the general manager of the international travel agency Tumei, Chen Yang, confirmed the launch on JD.com of the Cuba Tourist Card. He explained that it provides the Chinese with visa ease, as well as travel routes and unique experiences.

According to Chen, the card is incorporated into the Tumei Tourism Promotion Project within the e-commerce company's Latin America and Caribbean Pavilion.

On this point, Blanco recalled that this is possible because the island is one of the 20 destinations selected by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism to promote leisure travel after the pandemic.

In addition to Cuban products, the JD.com Latin America and Caribbean Pavilion makes goods such as coffee, wine, chocolate, mate and beef imported from Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, among others, available to consumers.

According to the vice president of this company, Ye Wei, there are more than 150 products from that region, 23 of them with special promotion and six with competitive prices. (Source: PL)
