United States returns 56 irregular migrants to Cuba

Havana, January 2 (RHC) The United States Coast Guard this Tuesday returned to Cuba 56 people who had participated in three illegal departures from the country, and were intercepted at sea.

According to the Cuban Ministry of the Interior (MININT), the majority of those returned (48 men and eight women) come from the western province of Matanzas.

Five of them were transferred to the investigative body for being alleged perpetrators of serious criminal acts that were being investigated before they became involved in the outing or after that action.

According to the MININT information note, the Cuban authorities remain firm in their commitment to safe and orderly emigration, while reiterating the danger and life-threatening conditions that illegal departures from the country by sea represent. (Source: PL)
