Cuba reiterates commitment to peace in Colombia
Havana, Feb 6 (RHC) The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, reiterated today the island's commitment to continue supporting the peace dialogues between the Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN).
At the closing of the 6th Cycle of the Round Table of Dialogues between the parties, Rodríguez stressed the island's conviction that the Colombian armed conflict must be resolved through political dialogue.
He also pointed out that during this cycle of dialogues in Havana since the end of January, the parties reached important agreements that demonstrate the possibility of moving towards stability in the South American nation. He highlighted the symbolism of reaching a new agreement just days before the tenth anniversary of the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace.
He encouraged the parties to strengthen trust and contribute to give the Colombian people the peace and transformation they deserve and demand.
This Tuesday, the parties signed the extension of the bilateral, national and temporary ceasefire for the next 180 days. They also announced the ELN's commitment to unilaterally and temporarily suspend economic withholdings and the creation of a multi-donor fund to implement the different agreements. (Source: PL)
