Havana, Jan 3 (RHC) The governments of Cuba and Cambodia have set the goal of celebrating this year the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and friendship.

This was agreed during a courtesy visit this Thursday by the Cuban ambassador, Milena Zaldívar, to the Deputy Prime Minister and Head of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom, Prak Sokhonn.

During the meeting, Sokhonn emphasized the recent celebration of the 66th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution and reaffirmed his nation's unwavering commitment to fostering the historic friendship and collaboration with the island.

Zaldívar, in turn, thanked the Cambodian government for its permanent rejection of the U.S. blockade on Cuba, and its support for the international call to remove island from the list of alleged sponsors of terrorism.

Both parties acknowledged the historical ties between the two nations and emphasized the remarkable communication and collaboration in several fields, as well as the numerous displays of solidarity for over six decades.

They also reviewed the key aspects of the bilateral relationship in the past year, 2024, and specifically highlighted the 3rd Meeting of Political Consultations in Havana.

Furthermore, they referred to Cuba's participation in the 11th session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, as well as the General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties. Both events took place in Havana.

The deputy prime minister of Cambodia and the Cuban ambassador also concurred on the goal of elevating bilateral relations to new heights this year, and reaffirmed their commitment to achieving tangible outcomes in their collaborative endeavors.

In this context, they decided to encourage high-level exchanges and to establish a commemorative day for the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations, which will include events in Phnom Penh and Havana.

Cuba and Cambodia established diplomatic ties on April 15, 1960, a relationship that has been built on mutual respect, admiration, and shared aspirations for progress, despite the vast geographical distance between the two nations. (Source: Prensa Latina)
