Casa de las Américas de Cuba announces this year’s literary award

Havana, Jan 8 (RHC) Cuba’s Casa de las Américas has announced the criteria for its literary prize, which will be awarded in 2025 in the categories of poetry, short stories, and research on Latinos in the United States.

In accordance with the regulations outlined on its Facebook account, works in Spanish can be submitted, and even those that have been printed no more than half will be deemed unpublished.

The document states that only authors of Latin American origin, whether they are born there or have become citizens, can participate in poetry and short story competitions.

On the other hand, authors of any nationality are eligible to compete for the prize for research on Latinos in the United States, provided their work aligns with the theme.

The invitation indicates that authors cannot submit more than one book in a specific genre or a work in the process of printing, even if it is unpublished or has received national or international recognition.

Additionally, they cannot participate in a genre that they have already won the Casa de las Américas Prize in the previous five years.

The Cuban cultural institution will present a singular and indivisible award for each category, which will include a sum of three thousand dollars or its equivalent in the local currency, and the publication of the work by Casa de las Américas.

Minor awards will be given if the judges deem them necessary, without any expectation of payment or editorial involvement.

Submissions must be done under a pseudonym and must not exceed 500 pages, using Times New Roman font size 12 with one and a half line spacing.

Casa de las Américas has the authority to publish the works, both in print and online, which will be regarded as the initial publication of the prize-winning works.

The contestants must download and complete the registration form, which can be found on the institution's online platforms.

The document specifies that both the form and the PDF of the work must be sent as attachments to the same email, with the addresses premiocasa@casa.cult.cu and premiocasa2025@gmail.com.

The deadline for applications will be on February 28th, and the winners will be announced on April 25th this year. (Source: Prensa Latina)
