The immense majority of Cubans, that is to say millions of people of all ages, are participating beginning this Monday in a great homage that throughout the country will pay a posthumous tribute to the historic leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro, who died last Friday in Havana at 90 years of age.
During Monday and Tuesday, the tribute to Fidel is taking place in the Cuban capital with a pilgrimage to the José Martí Memorial, located at the base of the monument erected to the Apostle of Cuban Independence,in the emblematic Plaza de la Revolución.
Hundreds of thousands are saying goodbye to the historic leader and ratifying the Concept of Revolution that Fidel made public on May 1, 2000, at a mass rally to celebrate International Workers' Day, held in the Plaza of the Revolution "José Martí."
That day, Fidel Castro proclaimed that "Revolution is unity, it is independence, it is to fight for our dreams of justice for Cuba and for the world, which is the basis of our patriotism, our socialism and our internationalism." This conception of Fidel expresses among other points that "There is no force in the world capable of crushing the force of truth and ideas."
During the homages to Fidel, two mass events will be held -- the first on Tuesday, November 29th, at the Plaza de la Revolución José Martí, and the second on Saturday, the 3rd of December, at the Plaza de la Revolución Antonio Maceo in Santiago de Cuba, where the ashes of Fidel will arrive by road from the Cuban capital.
According to the program, the placement of the ashes of the Commander-in-Chief of the Revolution will take place at 7 a.m. on Sunday, December 4, at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery in Santiago de Cuba, next to the monument that holds the remains of José Martí.
Although it has not been officially announced, it is expected that in these farewell acts for Commander Fidel Castro, a number of high-level foreign delegations will participate along with Cubans, especially in the ceremony that will take place in the cemetery in Santiago de Cuba. Jose Marti once said: “The one who gave his all, and did good to others, will rest in peace."
