This week it became known that the governments of Denmark and the United States signed an agreement to permanently deploy in the European country an as yet undetermined number of Pentagon troops, who will be stationed in at least three military bases.

The Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, said that this agreement will guarantee the stability and security not only of her country, but also of the rest of the region, from which it is clear that there will not be a few soldiers and 3 or 4 non-commissioned officers.

The head of government added that from now on the population will have to get used to seeing American soldiers on Danish soil, which in reality is already a very European custom.

The day before, Washington signed a similar commitment with Finland and at the beginning of December with Sweden, to which is added another one signed with Norway in 2021, which guarantees the presence of its troops in the Nordic European area.

These agreements contemplate the clause that if a military member commits a crime in any of these countries, it will be the U.S. justice system that will judge him.

This implies a net loss of sovereignty and so what is sold to the public as cooperation, has a strong aroma of occupation.

It may be that some naive head may think that this is a consequence of the war in Eastern Europe, but the truth is different, because since the end of World War II the Pentagon has had a strong foothold in the so-called old continent.

The creation of the European Union, a project seen with hope in other parts of the world because it was thought of the emergence of a solid and independent bloc, with forces to compete with or neutralize US hegemony, was not able to change these things.

At present, the northern power has 100,000 military personnel deployed in 275 bases in the territory of Western Europe, which in fact gave up any attempt to build its own defense system in order to take advantage of Yankee "protection", with all that this implies.

Germany, which is the country where the US armed forces have the most bases and military forces, announced in February 2022 a defense revolution which, in the long run, did not go beyond the announcement.

NATO, by the way, is not, as its name indicates, a treaty, but a model of imposition in which Washington, which provides most of the money, also sets the rules and plays the music that the others dance to.
