The presence at the meeting of Hamas, which governs Gaza, and Fatah, the backbone of the Palestinian National Authority, which exercises partial control over the occupied West Bank, was very important

In the midst of the tragedy unfolding in the Gaza Strip, where the death toll from the incessant Israeli bombardment has already exceeded 39,000, there was also encouraging news this week regarding the future of this region.

The protagonist on this occasion was the People's Republic of China, which succeeded in bringing together representatives of 14 Palestinian organizations, including Hamas and Fatah, to discuss the present and future of the Middle East and to prevent the Zionist State of Israel from becoming the absolute master of this area.

One of the fundamental points of the meeting was to hold a reconciliation dialogue between different groups that have a common denominator: to confront the annihilation carried out by Tel Aviv.

In this way, an agreement was reached on the formation of an "Interim Government of National Reconciliation" for the Strip once the war that began last October is over.

This is no small matter, considering that the goal of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to take over this territory in order to expand Jewish settlements there as well.

The presence at the meeting of Hamas, which governs Gaza, and Fatah, the backbone of the Palestinian National Authority, which exercises partial control over the occupied West Bank, was very important.

The meeting was welcomed by the international mediators for a ceasefire agreement in the Strip and tries to answer the question of what will happen "the day after", that is, who will govern the enclave.

A shared authority among the different Palestinian factions will be the best way to contain the desires of Israel, but also those of others who will try to intervene in the area under the most diverse pretexts, except to guarantee peace and security in such a hotly contested area.

A palpable proof of the importance of this step achieved with Chinese mediation was the reaction of Netanyahu, who rejected the agreement and repeated his threat to completely destroy Hamas and keep Fatah as far away from Gaza as possible.

It is no secret to anyone that Israel has never had the slightest intention of accepting the so-called two-state solution of sovereign states living side by side in peace and security within the recognized pre-1967 borders; the only Zionist interest is to annihilate Palestine as a state and a people and to take over the entire territory.
