The people of Calabria have no words to express their gratitude, respect and admiration for the work of Cuban doctors in this southern region of Italy.

On several occasions, health professionals from the Caribbean nation have been honored by the authorities and the people of Calabria. Now, the National Association of Italy-Cuba Friendship has awarded a plaque of recognition to the Cuban medical brigade present in this territory.

The president of the Association, Marco Papacci, highlighted the talent, dedication and sensitivity of the members of the Cuban Medical Brigade, whose work is based on the principles of the Cuban Revolution, demonstrating their commitment to the defense of life.

There are currently 333 Cubans working in 27 hospitals in five Calabrian provinces, where they provide services in 23 specialties.

The first arrived in December 2022, following the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Cuban Ministry of Health and the Calabrian government in August of that year.

This region of southern Italy was facing a critical situation in the health sector due to a lack of personnel and the possible closure of hospitals and emergency centers.

The arrival of the Cubans has meant a change. They have contributed to a significant improvement in the health indices of this southern area.

The high professionalism and dedication of the health workers from the Greater Antilles was already known to the Italian people.

They traveled there in 2020 to help in the fight against COVID 19, when Italy was the epicenter of the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

Once again, Cuban health professionals are helping to save lives, a commendable work that they have been doing for decades in every corner of the world, regardless of geography or conditions.
