Warsaw, December 5 (RHC)-- A Cuban delegation headed by the country's minister of science, technology and the environment Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya is participating in the 24th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP 24) in Poland.

The Cuban delegation is sharing the country's experiences in the implementation of the National Plan, aimed at confronting and minimizing the effects of climate change –what Cuban call 'Tarea Vida'.  

The meeting in Poland aims to advance in the final implementation of the 2015 Paris Agreement.   Cuba ratified the Paris Agreement in December 2016. The multinational accord promotes and defends the principle of common, but differentiated responsibilities, with a balanced treatment between the elements of mitigation, adaptation, finance, technology transfer, capacity building, losses, damages and response measures.

Cuba's 'Tarea Vida' comprehensive plan was born in 2017 to enforce the Paris Protocol. The Cuban plan includes five strategic actions and 11 tasks, including those aimed at reducing population settlements in coastal areas, diversifying and adapting crops to new scenarios, preserving sandy beaches and ensuring water availability and efficient use.

The COP 24 meeting in Poland is in preparation for the Paris Agreement entering into force in 2020.
