Pancho Amat and his group Cabildo del Son have presented their latest tune ‘Te esperaré’ or in English (I will Wait for you), inspired by the battle being waged by all Cubans against the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Born in 1950 in Güira de Melena, Leonel Francisco Amat --Pancho Amat—is a Cuban guitarist, and player of the Cuban tres --a guitar-like instrument with three courses (groups) of two strings each, for a total of six strings, and sometimes referred to as "Cuban Tres Guitar," "Tres Cubano" or "Tres Guitar."

In 1971, Pancho Amat became a founding member of Manguaré, which would become one of the leading ensembles within the Cuban nueva trova movement. He later played for Adalberto Álvarez y su Son. Currently, he is the leader of his own group, Cabildo del Son.

As a tres player, Pancho Amat has collaborated with Cuban and foreign artists, among them Joaquín Sabina, Oscar D'León, Pablo Milanés, Rosana, Ry Cooder, Silvio Rodríguez, Víctor Víctor, Yomo Toro, and Víctor Jara, and worked with Spanish rocker Santiago Auserón on the Juan Perro project. He has toured extensively around the world, especially the USA, Europe and Japan.

In 1995, he released Son Por Tres, which won the National Critics' Award at Cubadisco. His second production, De San Antonio a Maisí was awarded the Cubadisco  Award to the Best Traditional Music Album in 2002.

Considered "El Tresero Mayor de Cuba" (The Top Cuban Tresero), Pancho Amat was awarded the National Music Prize in 2010.

With lyrics by Cuban poet Hector Gutiérrez Jiménez, ‘Te esperaré’ was released under the label of the Recording and Musical Editions Company EGREM with collaboration from the Cuban Music Institute and the National Center for Popular Music.

The song features Cuban singer María Victoria Rodríguez. The accompanying musical video, full of symbolism, was directed by Cuban Mauricio Figueiral.
