Havana, June 10 (RHC) -- Havana’s Casa de las Américas has issued a statement, demanding the lifting of Washington’s nearly six decade-old blockade of Cuba and most recently, the fierce, ruthless media campaign unleashed against the Caribbean state.
The text, published on the website Misiones de Cuba en el Exterior (Cuban Missions Abroad), describes the Cuba sanctions as absurd, obsolete, illegal and morally unsustainable, as well as unfair and cruel.
“If we are to identify the single act of unilateral aggression that permanently threatens Cuba’s stability, hampers its development and the wellbeing of its people, there is just one answer: the US blockade,” the document states categorically.
The communique condemns the political, administrative and legal framework upon which the US blockade is structured, which keeps the more than 240 measures adopted by the former Donald Trump Administration fully in place today, amidst Covid-19.
Casa de las Americas denounced also the current Administration’s hesitation, despite trumpeted campaign promises, to move toward removing the Trump-era sanctions, or stopping the ever-more aggressive slander campaign against Cuba.
“Regardless of the huge efforts by the Cuban health system and the country’s biopharmaceutical industry, the US blockade seriously impacts Cuba’s battle to contain Covid-19, save lives and cooperate with other nations and peoples in the global fight against the pandemic,” said Casa de las Américas.
