Vladimir Malakhov
Havana, Sept. 20 (RHC)-- A special edition of the Vladimir Malakhov Dance Competition and Grand Prix will take place on digital platforms from eastern Holguín province, due to the complex epidemiological situation generated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Under the theme “Memorias de un Festival” (memoirs of a festival), the virtual event will include a broad program on the Facebook pages of Cuba’s Contemporary Dance Company Codanza and the provincial council on performing arts in Holguín, with videos sent by world ballet legend Vladimir Malakhov and international ballet entrepreneur Paul Seaquist, co-presidents of the event.
In the framework of the festival, internet users will have access to audiovisual materials on the vast artistic work of Malakhov, including practical and theoretical dance lessons he gave to dance students in the eastern Cuban territory.
Internet users will be able to appreciate choreographies in competition, as well as fragments of winning choreographies by Codanza and other prestigious Cuban and foreign dance companies in previous editions of the event.
The program includes also master classes by other renowned dance figures and interviews with Cuban and foreign dancers, critics, researchers and other dance personalities.
Organized by the provincial Council on Performing Arts in Holguin and Codanza, the event aims to encourage new works by young Cuban and foreign dancers toward strengthening the communications role of the artistic expression.
Held biannually since 2018, the Vladimir Malakhov Dance Competition and Grand Prix is presided over by world dance legend Vladimir Malakhov himself, Cuban dance professor Maricel Godoy and dance entrepreneur Paul Seaquist. Previous editions saw the convergence in Holguin of dancers and choreographers from across Cuba and countries like Spain, Mexico, Japan, Uruguay, United States and France.
