First Cuban and international zarzuela of 21st century to be premiered in Havana

Santa Camila de la Habana Vieja

Havana, Feb. 12 (RC)-- ‘Santa Camila de La Habana Vieja’ is the title of the first Cuban and international zarzuela of the 21st century, based on one of the best known texts by renowned Cuban playwright José Ramón Brene.

With artistic direction by Helson Hernández, music composed by Cuban pianist Eralys Fernández, and musical direction by maestro Miguel Patterson, conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Radio and Television Institute, ‘Santa Camila de La Habana Vieja’ will have its world premiere on February 25th at Avellaneda Hall of Teatro Nacional de Cuba.

Artists Ernesto Millán and José Manuel García Rebustillos are in charge of the set design. Precisely, the exhibition “Habana Santa” by Rebustillos and artists with the social and cultural project “Cabildo Quisicuaba”, led by Enrique Alemán Gutiérrez, will welcome theatre goers at the lobby of Teatro Nacional de Cuba.

The premiere of the zarzuela is dedicated to Havana Historian, the late Eusebio Leal Spengler and also to Cuban actress, the late Alina Rodríguez and her unforgettable acting debut, playing the part of Santa Camila, in the stage play directed by Huberto Llamas.
