Havana, May 12 (RHC) -- As part of the National Program for Reading in Cuba, the José Martí National Library reviews the horror short story The Terrible Old Man, by American author H.P. Lovecraft.

With the original title: The Terrible Old Man, it was originally published in 1921 and is set in the fictional city created by Lovecraft of Kingsport, while telling the story of a strange old man who lives there alone in an old house on Water Street.

The old man is an ex-ship captain and is rumored to have great treasures from his time at sea, although no one knows for sure, and the old man lives quite isolated from society and has a mysterious air about him.

In the story, three thieves who arrive in the city come up with the idea of robbing his house and trying to steal his hidden treasures. Is the old man really as helpless as he seems," says the review written by Maribel Duarte to promote its reading.

This edition of the story El viejo terrible has been translated by Elejandría publishing house since its publication in English at en.wikisource.org.

Right now, according to the Cuban institution, the book is available for download on the Portal of the José Martí National Library of Cuba, with access for everyone.
