Latin America wakes up and Cuban Film Festival hears its voice

Havana, December 15 (RHC)-- Latin America is waking up to convulsive scenarios, such as the same but recurrent old dictatorships, and the Havana Film Festival offers that space to the region's filmmakers to denounce those policies with their works.

These violent realities and remnants of societies in conflict are themes that this year are once again competing in the most important film contest held in this capital from December 8 to 17.

It is a reflection of years of uncertainty, the ghost of bureaucracy and other abuses suffered by peoples and communities, especially in South America, problems that distinguish several of the films competing in this 44th edition of the event.

The film "The Monroy Case" (Peru), by Josué Méndez -also producer, director and screenwriter of series such as "El Chapo"-, is one of those films that deals with corruption and other deep-rooted evils.

In this specific story, a critique of the Peruvian judicial system and the complex inner workings of a women's prison in Lima, the country's capital.

It is a film that narrates its plot from a prison, where the protagonist, Ronnie Monroy, finds a new purpose for his life as a retired civil servant.

The basis of this touching story begins with a chronicle book entitled "Día de visita" (Visiting Day), as explained by the director of the feature film, a copy that deals with life inside that prison, he added.

There is one of those narratives that tells about this retired character, who goes to the penitentiary to meet girls, a dark universe that really exists, he commented.

The Peruvian filmmaker explained that he did not know that, there are men who visit these centers to identify inmates and help them regain their freedom, although it is all about a perverse reality of these people due to the need for power, said Méndez.

The Peruvian-Argentine film "El caso Monroy" has in its cast three Cuban actresses with extensive experience in television and cinema, among them, Maryloly López and Lía Camilo, who recognize the good work of the director to carry out the story that competes in the film event.

This work was presented at the Malaga Film Festival and in general, the filmography of its director has reached multiple film festivals.
