National Ballet of Cuba on stage with Nutcracker
Havana, Dec 20 (RHC) The National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) will perform this December and next January at the National Theater with the play Nutcracker, according to its general director Viengsay Valdés.
In a press conference held the day before, Valdés commented that the public will be able to see this piece again, whose last presentation was in 2020. This time they will be accompanied by the children of the Solfa singing group, directed by teacher Mailán Ávila.
The presentations will be on December 28, 29 and 30 at the Avellaneda room of the National Theater, and the performance on January 1 will be dedicated to the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. From January 5 to 7, other performances of this world-famous piece will take place.
Valdés commented that this is one of the great ballet classics that excites the public, because it is full of joy and optimism.
For her part, the director of the Cantoría Solfa related that in this piece, performed at the end of the year, the accompaniment of the children's choir is traditional, especially in the snowflake scene, where high-pitched voices are needed.
Furthermore, the historian of the dance company, Miguel Cabrera, told Prensa Latina that although the staging of this work has several antecedents in Cuba, it was at the end of the 1990s that Alicia Alonso began to mature the idea of staging the Nutcracker ballet, a version now performed by the BNC.
Cabrera said it is a very beautiful and complete version, in two acts, to which the prima ballerina assoluta gave a Creole touch, appropriate to the characteristics of the Cuban school of ballet, although it maintains its status as a classic.
Likewise, the historian highlighted that Nutcracker is a style that crystallized in Tsarist Russia and exposes the link between three great figures: Marius Petipa, Lev Ivanov and Pyotr Ilich Tchaikovski. (Source: PL)
