Timbalaye 2024 Festival promotes art and identity in Cuban neighborhoods

Havana, August 20 (RHC) The 16th edition of the International Festival Timbalaye 2024: La Ruta de la Rumba, brought art and celebration to Havana's Pogolotti neighborhood, where the desire to preserve our identity was highlighted.

On the second day of the event, which will take place in all provinces of the country until August 31, the Avenue of the Timbales was inaugurated with the participation of neighborhood leaders, local artists and socio-cultural projects.

The occasion was an opportunity to recognize personalities with outstanding work in the field, among them cultural promoter Juan Cárdenas "Chan".

As part of the "Living in the Neighborhoods" project, the participants enjoyed a visit to the Casa Templo de Bárbara, followed by a tour of the community and ending at the Parque del Mambí Desconocido, where a wreath was laid.

Also, a timbalaye scholarship was organized, which will allow to know the names of the three Cuban mambises that inhabited the place.

Music, dance and traditions were mixed with the joy of artists and residents to celebrate together, the beat of the rumba, the rich heritage that distinguishes us.

The Timbalaye 2024 Festival, which will take place in person and virtually, is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the "Roads of the Enslaved" program, sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).

The famous Cuban poet and ethnologist Miguel Barnet, president of the Fernando Ortiz Foundation, considered that the event, which he attended as guest of honor, rescues the tradition and keeps alive the African heritage through the Rumba Route, which will resume its activities today, moving to the House of Culture of Romerillo, in the municipality of Playa (source: Prensa Latina).
