Cuba to play Mexico in its debut at Caribbean Series

Panama City, February 5th (RHC)—  The champions of Cuban baseball, the  Leñadopres (Woodcutters) of Las Tunas will have their debut this Tuesday at the 61st Caribbean Series 2019, scheduled to run until Sunday. 

The president of Cuba´s National Sports Institute (INDER), Dr. Antonio Becali, highlighted the potential of the team that will represent  the island at the Caribbean classic, and considered it ready to give a great joy to baseball fans throughout the country. 

Los Leñadores fulfilled a training session on Monday,  some 24 hours before its official debut in the tournament, scheduled at three o'clock on Tuesday afternoon, against the Charros de Jalisco, at the national stadium Rod Carew. 

The players that animate this 61 Series of the Caribbean have arrived from several nations with long tradition in this exciting sport. The  Cardinals of Lara and the Charros de Jalisco represent Venezuela and Mexico, respectively, and together with the Leñadores de  Las Tunas, make up the classificatory group A, considered the series´ toughest..

The best performing of the three, will play the grand finale, agreed for Sunday at Rod Carew Stadium.

On the series opening day on Monday, the Eastern Stars of the Dominican Republic and Cardinals of Lara of Venezuela debuted with victories.

In their first appearance in the February classic, the Eastern Stars beat 3x1 the Santurce Crabbers from Puerto Rico, supported by a formidable work of their pitchers who allowed only one hit.

The Dominicans decided in the fifth episode when with loaded bases,  reliever Nicholas Padilla transferred to third base Diego Goris to break a tie that exhibited the blackboard.
