With the participation of 64 top-level athletes the Men's Foil World Cup “Villa de la Habana” got underway this Friday.
Each fencer will aim to win at least two matches in order to access finals, where the world’s top 16 are already waiting to compete.
The elite group is led by Race Imboden (United States), second in the world ranking, who will try from tomorrow to retain the crown won last year after defeating the Italian Giorgio Avola.
Other major contenders are Gerek Meinhardt (U.S.), Andrea Cassara (Italy) and Miles Chamley -Watson (U.S.), ranked third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Cuban delegation will be led by national champion Yosniel Alvarez. This foil cup will ends tomorrow, Sunday, and gives points for world qualification, both individual and by team.
