Double Olympic shooting medalist resumes training for the President's Cup
Havana, September 21 (RHC/JIT)-- Double Olympic medalist Leuris Pupo resumed training for the shooting President's Cup, scheduled for Krakow, Poland, from November 3 to 10, with the attendance of the best in the world in the pistol and rifle modalities.
According to information provided to JIT (www.jit.cu) by national commissioner Julio Fidel Hernandez, the London 2012 Olympic titleholder and runner-up in Tokyo 2020 after a well-deserved rest returned on Monday to the Enrique Borbonet shooting range southeast of this capital.
Pupo, 44, will train there until the first ten days of October, because on October 12 he will leave with his coach Meinardo Torres for a new training base in Las Gabias, Spain, where he will stay until the start of the Polish championship to which he has been invited as one of the top 12 in the ranking in the 25-meter rapid fire pistol.
The famous Cuban, after his silver medal in the Olympic shooting range of Asaka last August 2, climbed to third place in the ranking with 3,500 points, only behind the French Jean Quiquanpoix (6,250), gold medalist in the Japanese competition, and the German Christian Reitz (4,050).
The other guests in this category are Peeter Olesk (Estonia), Yuehong Li (China), Clement Bessaguet (France), Oliver Geis (Germany), Daeyoon Han (South Korea), Leonid Ekimod (Russia), Marko Carrillo (Peru), Oskar Miliwek (Poland) and Ozgur Varlik (Turkey).
Of these, together with Quiquampoix, Pupo and Reitz, Han and Li were in the Tokyo final. Only Miliwek was not among the 26 participants in the preliminary rounds.
To the competition in Poland are summoned at the expense of the international federation the best dozens in the ranking of rifle and air pistol 10 m and rifle three positions 50 m for each sex, as well as in the pistol 25 m for women.
