Havana, December 11 (RHC)-- Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz, Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020, received Friday the vote of the multinational network teleSUR in the 57th edition of the Prensa Latina Sports survey.
In the category Best Male Athlete, Carapaz, surprising winner in the Japanese five-ring road race, reached his eighth vote and is only surpassed by Cuban wrestler Mijaín López, leader with 34.
Likewise, the media supported the candidacy of the stellar Venezuelan triple jumper Yulimar Rojas, reigning Olympic champion and world record holder (15.67 meters).
Rojas reached 50 preferences and dominates the Best Female Athlete category, ahead of Jamaican sprinter Elaine Thompson (six ballots) and Dominican Marileidy Paulino (three).
Telesur also supported the Cuban canoeing duo of Fernando Dayán Jorge and Serguey Torres, winners in the C2-1000 meters in the Japanese capital.
The Antillean team has 14 points and ranks second among the Most Relevant Teams, only behind the Argentine squad (28) that reigned at the Copa América 2021 soccer tournament.
After the pause in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Prensa Latina launched -last November 8- another edition of its Sports Survey to select the main exponents of Latin America and the Caribbean in 2021.
