The World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced that its fourth congress will be held on April 12-13, 2022 in Taipei
Havana, December 21 (RHC)-- The World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced that its fourth congress will be held on April 12-13, 2022 in Taipei, China.
The announcement of the dates follows a decision made in October 2020, when the WBSC executive postponed its November 2021 congress to the first quarter of 2022 due to the rigors of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new date aims to have as many attendees at the venue as possible, and will happen when most national federations have held their congresses or general assemblies after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The conclave on Taiwanese soil will include elections even for the president, according to a statement released today by the WBSC.
Riccardo Fraccari, president of the WBSC, said in his end-of-year message that "I hope that the restrictions that several countries are currently implementing (due to the Omicron variant) will allow us to hold our congress in person, as I am looking forward to meeting you all and celebrating our success together".
The latter refers to the success of the baseball and softball tournaments in Tokyo 2020 and also to the pleasing results of the sport of balls and strikes in the I Olympic Virtual Series.
Looking to the future, Fraccari highlighted the presence of baseball5 at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, and the great expectations that baseball and softball will return to the event under the five rings in Los Angeles 2028.
The Cuban Baseball Federation is currently coordinated by its vice presidents, after the unfortunate and sudden death of Higinio Vélez Carrión due to covid-19, in the middle of this year. Logically, the FCB is on the verge of holding new elections and recomposing its executive.
