Jasiel Rivero-Valencia Basket

Havana, January 20 (RHC/JIT) - Cuban Jasiel Rivero did not play with Valencia Basket of Spain in the 10th round of the Eurocup basketball tournament after contracting COVID-19.

A note on the Taronja club's website indicated that Rivero has tested positive for COVID-19 and did not travel to Greece like four other players for that reason, for the game in group B of the competition.

The statement explains that the Cuban power forward is isolated at home in good health, as the remaining quartet composed of Montenegrin Bojan Dubljevic, Slovenian Klemen Prepelic, and local Jaime Pradilla and Xabi Lopez-Arostegui.

And despite the lack of that quintet, the Valencians beat Promitheas Patras 71-68 on Wednesday to claim their seventh win and tie for first place in this key with Montenegro's Buducnost VOLI Podgorica with a 7-3 record.

We will have to wait for the results of the medical tests to see if Rivero can contribute to his team for the next game against the aforementioned Montenegro team, scheduled for the 25th.

The Valencians are also vying for a top-eight finish in the first round of the Spanish Endesa League to compete in the Copa del Rey, scheduled for the city of Granada from February 12 to 20.

Another of the players hired by his federation who is very active in the Romanian National League is Karel Guzman, also from Havana, who on Tuesday scored 13 points in the 110-98 victory of his team U Banca Transilvania Cluj Napoca over Steaua Bucharest.

Guzman has contributed well in the four successes so far this 2022 to raise them to 15 and maintain the undefeated record,

Several players from the island are playing for Argentina, among them today, Yoanki Mensía from Espiritu stood out as the second best scorer in the 75-74 win of his club Gimnasia y Esgrima de Comodoro Rivadavia against Oberá de Misiones.

Mensía scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds for the local team at the Socios Fundadores stadium. He now averages 13.3 per game to continue as the mainstay of the so-called Mens Sana, which is fourth in the standings with a 10-6 record.
