Public request for Ecuador-Brazil soccer match to be reviewed

Quito, January 26 (RHC/Prensa Latina)-- The Emergency Operations Committee (COE) of Ecuador will reevaluate today the decision to ban the public in the South American qualifier against Brazil, for a place in the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The new analysis responds to specific requests from the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) and the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso.

Last Monday, the COE rejected the FEF's request to allow a 60 percent capacity for the Ecuador-Brazil match on matchday 15 of the World Cup qualifiers, taking into account the increase of COVID-19 cases in the country, especially in this capital, the venue for the match scheduled for tomorrow.

We have four matches left to fulfill the dream of qualifying to the World Cup, we will host Brazil and Argentina. We will visit Peru and Paraguay; all the teams that today are fighting to take us out of the Qatar 2022 World Cup on this date will have the support of each of their fans, assured FEF president, Francisco Egas.

According to him, the Tricolor will be the only team that will play alone at a crucial moment, when the players most need support, which is why he considered the decision taken by the EOC as a decision without sporting or medical sense and asked the authorities to review the ban.

On his side, the president of the republic also asked the National COE for a new analysis, under technical criteria, on the possibility of admitting 50 percent of the capacity in the Rodrigo Paz stadium tomorrow.
