Havana, June 10 (ACN)-- The Cuban women's team defeated the Dominican Republic by a score of 3-0, on the last day of the group stage of the VI Pan American Cup under-21 volleyball tournament, which will conclude this Sunday at the La Paz Arena in Baja California, Mexico.

According to the website www.norceca.net, the Cubans overcame the Dominicans in group A with scores of 25-23, 25-17 and 25-17, after one hour and 15 minutes of play, with Lisania Grafort, top scorer of the match, with 15 points.

Grafort scored nine points in attack, four in blocking and two in service, along with her teammates Claudia Tarin (12/10-1-1) and Thainalien Castillo (10/7-0-3), while for the Quintana Roo team the best were Marcelly Perez (8/8-0-0) and Margaritha Gonzalez (8/3-3-2).

The statistics of the match reflect the superiority of Rogelio Andres Goytizolo's disciples in attack (36-28), blocking (10-4), service (7-5) and errors committed that contributed points to the rivals (20-22).

Cuba made its debut on Wednesday with a 3-1 victory (23-25, 25-16, 29-27 and 25-22) against Puerto Rico, who defeated the Quintana Roo 3-2 (25-23, 27-29, 25-22, 24-26 and 16-14) on Tuesday.

With these results, Cuba finishes in first place as undefeated in Group A with two wins and no losses, followed by Puerto Rico (1-1) and Dominican Republic (0-2).

Thus, the Cubans have a great chance of advancing directly to Saturday's semifinals, since the competition system only allows the top two teams in the three groups to advance.

On Thursday, Canada also defeated Costa Rica 3-0 (25-16, 25-28 and 25-11), but in Pool C, the section in which Argentina and the United States will play tonight, while in Pool B, Chile and Honduras will meet.

This Friday will be the quarterfinals, on Saturday the semifinals and on Sunday the medals will be discussed, and the two teams that will qualify for the world championship of the category in 2023 will be defined.
