Havana, October 23 (RHC)-- Cubans Elizabeth Caridad Reyes Entenza and Lesther Miguel Fernandez Prades won silver medals at the Pan American Junior Weightlifting Championships, which ends this Sunday in Lima, the capital of Peru.

Reyes, with three silver medals, double world youth runner-up, was on the verge of winning the three gold medals in the capital of Peru, according to the live television broadcast of the Pan American Weightlifting Federation.

In the 87 kilogram (kg) bodyweight category, the Cuban lifted 94 and 97 kg in the snatch exercise, but failed with 99.

The gold and bronze went to the Americans, Avery Owens with 98 kg and Amanda Robles with 97.

The Cuban lifted 123 kg and 127 kg in the snatch, but in her last execution she missed the top of the podium with 131 kg.

Among the men's 102 kg, Lesther Miguel Fernandez Prades started off impetuous with a perfect run of 143, 148 and 151 kg in the snatch, an event where he won the silver medal.

Fernandez lost his other podium chances when he failed in the three attempts of the rebound, all with 185 kg.

For Cuba, Marifelix Sarría Ruiz will close this Sunday, in the over 87 kg division.
