Havana, December 18 (RHC)-- The president of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, in the island city of Lusail, congratulated the Cuban people for the great support of their fans for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
In statements made to Cuban television, the executive acknowledged the expectation and motivation aroused in the Caribbean nation by the most universal of sports, despite not having its national team in the Qatari event.
Infantino insisted on the need to support Cuban football even more in order for it to attend a universal competition, and congratulated the Artemisa team, champion of the Closing Tournament in Cuba.
He also highlighted the great success of the Arab fair in terms of audience figures, what happened on the field of play and the tournament's capacity for cohesion.
He especially congratulated Morocco for its historic fourth place, the first African team to reach the semifinals of a World Cup.
According to the executive, FIFA has been working for years on the development of soccer in Africa and the next World Cup will double the number of teams from that continent to be able to enjoy their great performance.
