Cuban Yoanki Mencia

Havana, February 13 (RHC) - Cuban Yoanki Mencía was crowned champion with Gimnasia Comodoro Rivadavia of the Super 20 Basketball Cup in Argentina, where he also won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the final.

In the title game, the 25-year-old, 1.98m tall player had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in Gimnasia's 85-79 win over Obras Sanitarias.

"We knew it was going to be difficult because Obras Basket had been playing well," the native of Sancti Spíritus (central Cuba9, who also had two assists in 35 minutes of action on the court, told the Argentine press.

Mencia, who has been playing for Gimnasia since 2019, added that winning the Super 20 Cup "was the goal for the first part of the season, plus we wanted revenge since last year we lost the Cup to Instituto de Córdoba".

Another Cuban, Marcos Chacón, was also crowned with Gimnasia Comodoro Rivadavia.

Both Cuban players will play in the South American Basketball Club League, after Gimnasia won the Super 20.
