Hockistas from the capital win bronze medal in national competition

Havana, February 25 (RHC)-- The Havana men's field field hockey team won the bronze medal in the National Championship of the discipline, held in Ciego de Avila, by defeating three goals to one its similar team from Las Tunas.

Of the three goals scored by the capital's team, two were scored by Yasmany Gutiérrez: one on a play and the other on a penalty stroke, the third goal was scored by Félix Mena, also on a play, while the Tunas' goal was scored by Yordankis Méndez on a rebound from a penalty corner.

The team from Las Tunas arrived at this match with six points, obtained from two wins, as they lost three matches in the qualifying stage, while the Havana team had five goals from one win and two ties.

On Friday, the fifth position was also discussed between Camagüey and Villa Clara, a challenge that was defined in penalties, as both teams finished tied in regulation time with one goal.

The Camagüeyans scored three times, while the Villa Clara team scored only once, leaving them in last place in the competition.

The championship title game between the teams of Ciego de Avila, current champion, and Santiago de Cuba is scheduled for today.

The locals accumulated 13 points for four wins and a draw, while the Santiago team got seven points for two wins and a draw.

The competition system of the match was a round-robin, all against all in the new synthetic field, which was inaugurated in previous days with the celebration of the women's tournament.

The synthetic field measures 92 meters long by 55 meters wide and is the second one available for field hockey in the country, since the other one is located in Santiago de Las Vegas, Havana.
