Dutch Max Verstappen wins at the Catalan circuit of Montmeló.
Havana, June 4 (RHC) -- Dutch Max Verstappen won today the Spanish Grand Prix, to continue his Red Bull team's sweep in the seven races of the current Formula One season, which he leads with 170 points.
Verstappen was the great protagonist in the Catalan circuit of Montmeló from the pole position made the previous day and this Sunday imposed his authority on the representatives of the Mercedes team, the British Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, while his teammate, Mexican Sergio Perez, anchored in fourth position.
The victory was the fifth of the season for Verstappen, the third in a row in Spain - he won it in 2016 and 2022 - and the 40th in the career of the double Formula One world champion, in addition to securing the bonus point for fastest lap to crown a day of total domination.
With this, the Dutchman consolidated his leadership in the world championship with 26 more points, placing him at 170 units and 53 points ahead of the second, his teammate "Checo" Perez, who finished fourth after starting in eleventh position on Sunday.
In fifth position finished the Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), despite starting second on the grid in front of his home crowd, undoubtedly the biggest loser of the day, while his compatriot Fernando Alonso, supported by tens of thousands of local fans, could only be seventh with his Aston Martin, his worst result of the season.
