San Salvador, June 19 (JIT) - Two-time Olympic champions Julio César La Cruz and Arlen López head the list of Cubans who will arrive this Monday to the main venue of the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023.
La Cruz (92 kg), one of the standard bearers of the Cuban delegation, together with Arlen (80 kg), is part of the Cuban boxing team, completed by five young boxers in full ascent, including three world runners-up.
The group that will arrive in the evening hours to the Salvadoran capital is also integrated by exponents of table tennis, beach volleyball and artistic gymnastics, other sports with actions in the initial week of the competition.
Coaches, sports medicine specialists, reporters and support personnel complete the delegation's advance party.
One day later, on Tuesday, the men's field field hockey team will travel to Santo Domingo for a quadrangular tournament prior to the regional competition.
The main Dominican city will also host the taekwondo, racquetball, modern pentathlon, shotgun shooting, canoeing and equestrian tournaments.
Cuba will rely on 503 competitors in 36 sports disciplines and will take on the competition with the goal of winning between 70 and 80 titles that will allow it to remain at the forefront, in competition with the favorite Mexico and the growing Colombia.
