With the defeat of Ciego de Avila today against La Isla, the last quarterfinal pairings in the Cuban baseball tournament were defined.

Havana, July 3 (RHC)-- With the defeat of Ciego de Avila today against La Isla, the last quarterfinal pairings in the Cuban baseball tournament were defined.

The Tigres lost 1-2 in 11 innings and were in eighth place in the standings, which means they will face the leader Las Tunas in the postseason.

The Pirates' victory in the last pending game of the preliminary phase determined that Camagüey moved up to seventh place and will be Santiago de Cuba's rival in the first round of the playoffs.

This completes the four duels, as the clashes between Industriales-Sancti Spíritus and Matanzas-Artemisa were set several days ago.

The Cuban baseball post-season will begin on July 8 at the Julio Antonio Mella and Guillermón Moncada stadiums in Las Tunas and Santiago de Cuba, respectively, whose teams topped the standings.

All playoff series will be played to the best of seven games, always starting at 2:00 p.m. (local time).

As a novelty, Cuban players residing abroad will be able to participate without having to comply with the repatriation requirement, recently eliminated for national sports competitions.

Cuba will have a new champion, after the Alazanes de Granma, monarchs of the last two editions, were eliminated.
