Havana, July 31 (JIT) - Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv announced on Sunday the signing of Cuban basketball player Jasiel Rivero.

The Havana native thus ends a four-year journey in Spain's ABC League, which led him to successfully wear the jerseys of Hereda San Pablo Burgos and Valencia Basket.

The Cuban power forward's new club is the champion of the Israeli Basket Super League (BSL) and has 53 titles, the most successful in the Hebrew country.

In addition to the titles in the so-called Winner League, as the Israeli championship is also known, Maccabi has six championship trophies in the Euroleague of this sport.

Although the blue and yellows have not won the continental tournament since 2014, they will guarantee Rivero to perform in the strong tournament of the Old Continent next season.

The 29-year-old Cuban, who is 2.06 meters tall, will be reunited with James Webb III, his Valencia Basket teammate. He will also fight for a spot on the court with the likes of Josh Nebo, Roman Sorkin and Jake Cohen. There is certainly overcrowding at the four and five positions, where Rivero plays.

"I am super pleased and excited about this opportunity. We want to achieve a lot of success with this great project. I am eager to arrive and join this family," Rivero said through Tel Aviv's social media profiles.
