Silver and bronze medalists in Yekaterinburg Festival

Budapest, August 22 (JIT) - Anisley García celebrated with a silver medal at the beginning of diving at the Yekaterinburg International University Sports Festival 2023, in Russia, where Carlos Escalona also won bronze.

Anisley, a student of the Manuel Fajardo University of Physical Culture and Sports Sciences, had led the qualifying round with 337.20 points, an unprecedented figure for a Cuban in this specialty.

"The previous all-time high of 332.30 points had also been done by her in the Barranquilla Central Caribbean Games," national diving commissioner Milagros Gonzalez reminded JIT, happy as the rest of the work team behind these results.

"She had a very good competition, with stable jumps and clean entries into the water. She is in very good shape and every competition we face is very good for the objectives we have set for this year", added the director.

Another good result was achieved by Escalona in the one-meter springboard. The bronze medal was the prize for his 380.70 points, his best total in an international competition.

"He opened the medal standings here and we are proud of the way he presented himself. All the boys have worked very hard and we are still focused on looking for a good result in the next Pan American Games in Santiago 2023," said Milagro in reference to the main competitive commitment for the rest of the year.

Nikita Schleicher, representative of the Volga State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism and European champion, dominated the event with 392.50 units. The silver medal went to Alexander Cherepakhin (390.05 points) from Lesgaft National State University in St. Petersburg.

Belarus, Argentina, China, Ecuador and Brazil are also taking part in diving at the Festival, which is being held at the Novokoltsovsky District's water sports palace.

Prisis Leydi Ruiz, Carlos Daniel Ramos and José Alfredo Quintana will also compete for Cuba.
