Havana, August 26 (PL)-- The national team of Puerto Rico defeated South Sudan 101-96 today in the debut of both teams in the basketball World Cup, which is hosted by three nations of the Asian continent.
Led by a double-double (21 points-13 rebounds) by Stephen Mark Thompson Jr., the Puerto Ricans secured the important success in the tournament in a key that also includes the teams of Serbia and China.
For Latin America, Brazil also achieved success in this day, beating Iran 100-59, with a highlight for Bruno Caboclo, who scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
In other results of the day, Georgia defeated Cape Verde 85-60 and Greece defeated Jordan 92-71.
