Havana, September 7 (PL)-- Canada today completed the group of semifinalists in the men's basketball World Championship for the Philippines, Indonesia and Japan 2023, after beating Slovenia 100 points to 89.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (31 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals) and RJ Barrett (24-9-2-1) led the Canadians, who are reaching this stage for the first time in their history.

For the Slovenians, their best scorers were Klemen Prepelic (22-5-3-1) and Luka Doncic (26-4-5-2), who did not play in the final stages of the game, when the closest his team got was 94-85 with 3:15 minutes remaining.

For the next round, the Americans' opponent will be Serbia, who defeated Lithuania 87-68 on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Germany made it to the Big Four by defeating Latvia 81-79, and will return to this round 21 years after the last time, when it was one step away from the final after losing to Argentina in 2002, although it ended up with bronze medal.

The Europeans will meet in the semis with the United States, which after losing to Lithuania swept Italy 100-63 the day before.

The two semifinals will be played on Friday in the Philippine capital; the winners will play for the title and the losers for the bronze, both games scheduled for next Sunday at the same venue.
