Montevideo, November 17 (PL) - The Uruguayan press described Friday as historic the victory of the Uruguayan national soccer team over Lionel Messi's world champion Argentina, in a match held at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires.

It happened the day before in a FIFA Qualifying Match for the 2026 World Cup, in a match where the Charrúas dominated the midfield and twice drilled the goal of Dibu Martínez.

The Uruguayan media celebrated the goals scored by Ronald Araujo (his first with the national team) and Darwin Nuñez that sealed the 2-0 victory in a "dream night" as the newspaper El Observador described it.

"Uruguay made history", "Historic triumph", were headlines repeated by the morning newscast of TV channel four and Grupo R Multimedio, in digital format.

"Class and Category: Uruguay beat Argentina at La Bombonera", headed the newspaper La Diaria, which also pointed out that the Celeste broke a 14-game unbeaten streak against the world champion team.

"Uruguay, with character and great game", defined Montevideo Portal.

Other media recall that the team coached by Marcelo Bielsa beat Brazil in the previous match, also away and at the Maracana.
