Elisbet Gámez

Havana, November 27 (JIT) - Cuba's Elisbet Gámez and Andrea Becali stood out in swimming competitions in France and the Dominican Republic.

Gámez, the best Cuban swimmer in recent years, closed with a title and a silver medal at the International Swimming Meeting in Lyon, France, and was recognized as the best swimmer and the third most outstanding contestant.

In short course pool (25 m), Elisbet triumphed in the 200 m freestyle with excellent time of 1:57.52 minutes, very close to her national primacy imposed in 2022.

"I felt great the whole time. I am doubly happy because I beat the national record without being in shape, a sign that things are going well in training," said Gámez to the digital newspaper JIT.

The outstanding ondina had also previously won silver medals in the 100 free with 55.54 seconds and in the 50 with 25.80 seconds, although in the qualifiers she had clocked 25.67 to erase her own national record of 25.82.

On the other hand, Andrea Becali won two titles in the closing of the Delfines del Naco International competition in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to win four crowns in the event.

Andrea won gold medals in the 200 and 400 meters freestyle, and in the 100 and 200 backstroke, as well as silver in the 100 freestyle, to win the trophy for the swimmer with the most medals, and Cuba finished as the most outstanding national team.

Another Cuban, Laurent Estrada, also contributed units for her silver medals in the 400 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 100 butterfly.

Becali and Laurent will continue in Santo Domingo until December 17, as a training base for future competitions.
