Havana, January 17 (RHC) --The FCBS, Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation highlighted Wednesday Colombia's action in the face of attempts to use a sporting event in its territory as a stage for aggressions against the largest Antillean island.

Jit, the official site of Cuban sports, reports that the institution highlighted the action of the Colombian authorities, especially the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee, in recognizing the FCBS as the legitimate representative of baseball in the Caribbean island, as well as the right to the sovereign use of patriotic symbols.

That decision prevented the attempt by the self-styled Cuban Professional Baseball Federation (FEPCUBE) to usurp functions solely assigned to the FCBS.

"We take note of the suspension, by its organizers, of the Intercontinental Series of Professional Baseball in Barranquilla, Colombia, to which we were invited and considered attending," the Cuban sports institution stressed.

The text adds that the FCBS never rejected the realization of the Intercontinental Series, but the presence of the usurper FEPCUBE and its purpose of taking advantage of the scenario to carry out a vulgar political show and not a sports party as the fans deserve.

"In correspondence with the principles of the Cuban Sports System, the FCBS defends the precepts of fair and healthy play, which develops human capabilities, brotherhood among peoples, the spirit of camaraderie and unity, not divisions, revanchism and the use of sport for political purposes," the statement concludes.
