Havana, April 23 (ACN)-- The Cuban Greco-Roman style wrestlers will travel to Europe next May to a training base with a view to the Olympic Games in Paris, France, to be held from July 26 to August 11.

Raúl Trujillo, head coach of the Grequistas, declared to the Cuban News Agency that the departure that will take them to Croatia, Hungary and Bulgaria is scheduled for the 9th or 10th.

He added that they are currently continuing their preparation in the Varadero resort, in the province of Matanzas, where they have been since the end of March.

Along with the main gladiators of this modality there are other trainers, as well as doctors, psychologists and physiotherapists.

So far, in the classic specialty there are five Cubans with safe tickets to the fight under the five rings in Paris, and only Daniel Gregorich, in the 87 kilograms (kg), champion of the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023.

Trujillo expressed that Gregorich will compete in the world pre-Olympic competition in Istanbul, Turkiye, to be held from May 9 to 12, an event that will grant three places for each of the divisions.

The group of qualifiers for the summer event is headed by Mijaín López (130 kg), who will go to the French capital in search of his fifth crown at that level and thus increase his legend in those settings.

Luis Orta (67 kg), Olympic champion of Tokyo 2020 and of the world in Belgrade, Serbia, in September of last year, will also be mainstays for the Cuban cast, in addition to Gabriel Rosillo (97 kg), gold medalist in the aforementioned World Championship.

The group is completed by Kevin de Armas (60 kg) and Yosvanys Peña (77 kg), winners of the silver and bronze medals, respectively, at the continental multi-sports event in the Chilean capital.
