Havana, May 12 (JIT) -- Yarisleidis Cirilo won bronze in the C1 200 meters of the Szeged 2024 Canoe World Cup, hosted by Hungary.

World champion in the specialty, Cuban Cirilo clocked 46.21 seconds to record the best performance on the Island to date.

Before, she had dominated one of the semifinals of the contest with 45.71, a time with which she would have won silver, since the gold medalist, the Canadian Katie Vincent, did 45.54 and her countrywoman Sophia Jensen placed second with 46.16.

This Sunday José Ramón Pelier placed eighth in the C1 1,000 meters. A time of 3:50.67 minutes left him in second-to-last place in the strong competition, after leading in the semifinals.

Perennial adversary of Pelier, who will also compete in the C1 5000 meters, Brazilian Isaquias Guimaraes won gold with a time of 3:45.84.

For her part, Yinnoly López did not reach the final of the C1 200 event. In the first semifinal of the distance she achieved a time of 49.13.

The three Cubans are qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which will take place from July 26 to August 11.
