Cuban U19 Women's Volleyball Team

Havana, July 17 (JIT) The Cuban squad suffered its third setback in the Norceca U-19 Women's Volleyball Championship 2024 after losing to Canada, but in a match in which they showed their best performance and greater resistance to their opponents.

At the Jorge Galeano Gymnasium in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, the northerners won 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-21). With highlights in the first and third sets, in which the students of Olympian Norka Latamblet were more focused.

The Canadians finished ahead in attack (34-23), blocking (9-5) and service (9-7), and were further benefited by the 23 points given away by the Antilleans due to their unforced errors.

Chloe Bradley (13 points) and Sol Henson (10) were the most productive for the winners, while for Cuba, corner players Yesica Brito and Salet Castillo stood out again with 11 each.

Group A was led by the United States undefeated and without dropping a set as they dominated Puerto Rico 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-22) in their last match in this phase.

Also advancing with three wins without setbacks was Mexico, winner of the B bracket, so both teams advance directly to Thursday's semifinals.

Canada and Puerto Rico (Group A) and the Dominicans and Costa Ricans (B) qualified for the quarterfinals, a round that will be played tonight.

Cuba and Honduras, winless so far, will play to qualify for the fifth through eighth places.
