Cuban volleyball team advances directly to semifinals in Pan American Cup

Havana, July 19 (RHC) - The renewed Cuban men's volleyball team defeated the host Dominican Republic in four sets to advance to the semifinals of the Pan American Cup in Santo Domingo.

With the win (25-18, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-13), Mario Izquierdo's students dominated undefeated (4-0) Group B to advance directly to the semifinals.

Collectively, the young Cuban team excelled in the main aspects of the game: attack (54 points), blocking (10) and service (10 aces).

Opposite Carlos Charles, a member of the Cuba team in the recent Nations League, was the top scorer of the match with 27 points, 25 of them with his powerful attacks.

He was seconded by Bryan Camino (12), Victor Andreu (8) and Alexis Wilson (8).

While the Cubans rest this Friday, the host will have to face the United States, second place in Group A with a 3-1 record. 

The Pan American Cup is a qualifier for the NORCECA 2025 Continental Championship, the next edition of the Pan American Cup in 2025 and the 2027 Pan American Games.
